4 Ways: Ideas for Events

Every Global Day event will be a unique experience. Below are four ideas for building your Global Day event. The Community Resource Guidebook provides more details on each of these models. In addition, the Global Day staff can consult with you as you begin to plan your activities.

Round-Robin: Each session features several simultaneous classes either on a specific theme or not. Teachers may repeat classes during subsequent sessions as participants switch classes. This is very flexible although you will need multiple educators/facilitators and space for all of the classes.

Global-Day-A-Thon: The idea of ‘a-thon’ focuses on different audiences and events that would occur throughout the day on November 7th. It brings together your community to a variety of events based on target audiences for example:

  • Communal adult learning programs (synagogues, Florence Melton Adult Mini Schools, Partners in Torah, etc.) to a central location to learn together;
  • Family event with PJ Library;
  • Teenagers and Seniors learning together either in a residence or at the JCC;
  • Keynote speaker, film and/or music event with learning beforehand.

Beit Midrash (Study Hall) in Chavrutah or Small Groups: This would be a good idea if you want to bring your entire community together in a single space to learn – creating a community beit midrash. This can work for large or small groups. You will need to have one educator/facilitator setting the stage and possibly others that are available for walking around the room to respond to questions. The beit midrash can also be a good kick-off event to other programming throughout the day.

Topic Focused: The activities you plan around your Global Day will be focused on a single theme (see Curriculum Topics). This is a good idea if you hope to incorporate a keynote speaker and/or a film. You can begin your event with a couple of learning modules on the specific theme before the speaker or film and then possibly have a discussion following the keynote address on the topic.
